Russia affirms energy ties with Iran despite regional conflict
Russia has no plans to suspend its energy agreements with Iran, Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev told reporters at the “Energoprom-2026” forum.
“We will not interrupt the energy contracts we have with Iran. We will continue to develop these contracts based on our principles of energy fairness and technological sovereignty,” Tsivilev said, TASS reports.
The remarks come in the wake of a major military escalation in the region. On February 28, the United States and Israel launched coordinated strikes against Iran, targeting major cities including Tehran. The White House justified the operation by citing alleged missile and nuclear threats from Tehran.
In response, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) carried out a large-scale retaliatory operation, striking targets in Israel. The strikes also affected US facilities in Bahrain, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia. The attacks on Iran resulted in the deaths of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other senior figures within the Islamic Republic’s leadership.
