Russia denies receiving official word on US-Ukraine talks in Saudi Arabia

13 March 2025 14:03

Russia has not received any official communications following the recent talks between the United States and Ukraine in Saudi Arabia, according to Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova.

Speaking at a briefing, Zakharova confirmed that no official statements or requests had been received from the US or Ukraine regarding the outcome of the meeting held in Jeddah on March 11, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.

She noted that Russia had been closely monitoring the discussions, and had reviewed the resulting statement, which contained a range of proposals.

Zakharova emphasised that Russia was open to discussing these initiatives in future contacts with the United States. She added that such talks could take place as early as today, and assured that further updates would be provided as more details become available.

To recall, Ukraine has agreed to a US-proposed 30-day ceasefire in its ongoing conflict with Russia, contingent on Moscow accepting the same terms. After the meeting in Jeddah, a joint US-Ukrainian statement confirmed Ukraine’s readiness for the ceasefire, which could be extended by mutual agreement.

Both sides have agreed to begin negotiations towards a lasting peace, with Ukrainian officials emphasising their desire for a just resolution. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy reiterated that Ukraine is ready for peace but stressed that Russia must show its commitment to ending the war.

Additionally, the US announced it would lift its suspension of military support and intelligence sharing with Ukraine. Talks in Saudi Arabia also touched on potential agreements on critical raw minerals.
