Russia, Kyrgyzstan explore strategic ties, migrant worker conditions
Marlen Mamataliev, Speaker of Kyrgyzstan’s Jogorku Kenesh (parliament), met with Sergey Vakunov, Russian Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan, to discuss the development of Kyrgyz-Russian cooperation and exchange views on current issues, including conditions for migrant workers.
Mamataliev emphasised that Kyrgyzstan attaches special importance to strengthening its strategic partnership with Russia, Caliber.Az reports via Kyrgyz media.
“Political dialogue and strategic interaction between our states are at a high level. We must continue to strengthen ties based on friendship and trust, including actively developing interparliamentary cooperation,” he said.
The speaker announced plans for an official visit to Russia in the near future, noting that the trip will be important not only for interparliamentary dialogue but also for reinforcing bilateral relations.
“I am confident the meetings and negotiations will be productive and will give a boost to further cooperation,” Mamataliev added.
He also raised concerns about conditions for Kyrgyz migrant workers and their families in Russia, offering proposals to improve the situation. Mamataliev highlighted the importance of joint efforts to legalise vehicles with Russian license plates currently in Kyrgyzstan.
“No issues are unsolvable. As partners, we must discuss every problem openly and find solutions through dialogue,” he stressed.
Ambassador Vakunov congratulated Mamataliev on his election as speaker and wished him success in his responsibilities. He expressed readiness to assist in organising the upcoming visit and noted the significance of the proposals raised.
The parties also agreed to intensify interparliamentary cooperation at international platforms and within specialised committees.
