Russia says it shot down 115 Ukrainian drones overnight Most Over Kursk Region
Russia’s Ministry of Defence has said that its air defences shot down 115 Ukrainian drones overnight across several regions of the country, with the vast majority intercepted over the Kursk region.
As many as 109 of the drones were downed over Kursk, which lies close to the border with Ukraine, Caliber.Az reports per Russian Defence Ministry.
The remaining drones were reportedly intercepted over four other regions — three over Voronezh and one each over the Moscow region, Bryansk, and Oryol.
The Ministry described the drones as "aircraft-type unmanned aerial vehicles" and claimed that all were successfully intercepted by air defence systems on duty during the night.
As of April 15, 2025, the Russia- Ukraine conflict remains intense, despite ongoing diplomatic efforts. A Russian missile strike on April 14 in Sumy killed at least 34 civilians, including two children, marking one of the deadliest attacks in recent months. Russia claimed the target was a military gathering, but Ukraine and European leaders condemned it as a war crime.
Diplomatic talks between the U.S. and Russia continue, with both sides agreeing to work towards ending the war and improving ties. However, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov acknowledged that reaching an agreement with the U.S. is challenging. U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed optimism about achieving a ceasefire by April 20, aligning with Easter, but significant differences persist between the parties.
On the ground, Russia is intensifying its offensive in southern Donetsk, particularly around Velyka Novosilka and Kurakhove. Ukrainian forces face the threat of encirclement in these areas. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has urged President Trump to visit Ukraine to witness the devastation firsthand and criticized Vice President JD Vance for allegedly justifying Russian actions.
