Russian PM Mishustin to report to Putin on flood recovery efforts in Dagestan
Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued several directives following a meeting on flooding in the republic of Dagestan.
The government will establish a commission to address the consequences of the floods in the region, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Kremlin press service.
The commission includes representatives of federal executive bodies, regional authorities of Dagestan, and the deputy presidential envoy to the North Caucasus Federal District, Magomed Ramazanov. Minister of Emergency Situations Alexander Kurenkov will head the commission.
A report on the commission’s work must be submitted to Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin by April 20.
By the same deadline, the government and the Ministry of Emergency Situations are required to report on flood recovery efforts in Dagestan and the implementation of support measures for affected residents.
Mishustin and Kurenkov have been appointed responsible for the process.
On April 5, shortly after the onset of flooding, the Gedzhukh reservoir burst in the Derbent district of Dagestan.
The floods have so far left six people dead and affected more than 15,000 residents.
A criminal case has been opened over violations of safety rules in the operation of hydraulic structures and environmental protection regulations during construction work.
On the eve of the announcement, an engineer responsible for the safety of the reservoir equipment was arrested.
The director general of a company involved in the project has also been detained on suspicion of ignoring safety violations during dam operations.
