Russian president explains principles of new nuclear doctrine
Russian President Vladimir Putin has provided clarity on the country’s updated nuclear doctrine, emphasizing that the document is not being "tightened" but rather "improved".
Addressing a meeting of the Presidential Council for Civil Society and Human Rights, Putin stated that Russia's nuclear strategy is evolving, with the improvement of its "Oreshnik" medium-range missile system being a key element, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.
He argued that with a sufficient number of these advanced weapon systems in place, the need to deploy nuclear weapons would be virtually eliminated.
“We are not tightening the nuclear doctrine. We are improving it,” Putin explained, highlighting the importance of enhancing Russia’s defence capabilities.
The president also underscored that Russia maintains a cautious and restrained approach in all matters, but where necessary, the state demonstrates resolve.
“Where necessary, we show the necessary will at the state level and at the level of citizens of the Russian Federation who live here and want their children to live here, who consider Russia their homeland and are ready to do everything to strengthen it,” Putin added.
