Russian scientist calls on Azerbaijani colleagues to jointly study Caspian Sea issues
Director General of the International Environmental Foundation "Clean Seas", honorary polar explorer of Russia, Vasily Bogoslovsky has said that the Caspian countries do not need to disassociate, but to cooperate to solve the problems of the Caspian Sea.
Bogoslovsky made the statement on the sidelines of the international conference "Change in the level of the Caspian Sea, forecasts and adaptation measures in the face of climate change" in Baku on July 5, Caliber.Az informs.
This conference was organized by Azerbaijan's Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources with the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
"We lack data sharing,” he said, adding that climate change, especially global warming, has a strong impact on the number of the Caspian seal.
According to him, “The Caspian seal is in the Red Books of Russia and Azerbaijan. According to various estimates, there are from 5,000 to 15,000 seals in the Caspian Sea, although we believe that there are several more of them. Lukoil helps us in our research.
I am personally ready to invite Azerbaijani scientists at my own expense to participate in various studies in the Russian part of the Caspian Sea, including flights on a seaplane - the La-8 flying laboratory. But we also hope that our Azerbaijani colleagues will invite us to participate in their research,” V. Bogoslovsky emphasized.
According to him, the conference taking place in Baku will be of great benefit for solving the problem of lowering the level of the Caspian Sea, it has become a platform for the exchange of expert opinions on this issue.
