Serbian leader thanks Azerbaijan for continued gas supplies to Serbia
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has expressed gratitude to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and announced that gas supplies from Azerbaijan to Serbia will not be suspended.
The Serbian leader made the remarks on his social media page on X, Caliber.Az reports.
"Our brothers and friends from Azerbaijan just informed me that, despite the objective problems caused by force majeure circumstances, gas supplies to Serbia will not be interrupted. Huge thanks to Azerbaijan and President Ilham Aliyev, whom I am looking forward to welcoming soon in Belgrade," Vučić wrote.
It is important to note that on January 11, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić announced that Azerbaijan had informed Serbia about the suspension of daily gas supplies amounting to 1.7 million cubic meters due to technical issues at the Shah Deniz field.
Some media outlets reported that the interruptions in supplies could last allegedly "several months."
Meanwhile, bp Azerbaijan stated that the company is working to resolve the technical issue at the platform as quickly as possible.
"Work is underway to resolve the technical issue as quickly as possible. There are no problems with the Shah Deniz Alpha platform or other platforms. The technical problem occurred specifically in the underwater condensate export line between the Shah Deniz Alpha platform and the Sangachal terminal," said bp.
To recall, on November 15, 2023, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and the Serbian company Srbijagas signed an agreement on the supply of Azerbaijani gas to Serbia. According to the contract, up to 400 million cubic meters of gas will be supplied annually from Azerbaijan to Serbia from 2024 to 2026, with the possibility of increasing the volume starting in 2027.
Azerbaijani gas supplies to Serbia began in February 2024. In September 2024, SOCAR and Srbijagas signed an additional agreement for the sale and purchase of gas at a rate of 1 million cubic meters per day, covering the period from November 1, 2024, to April 1, 2025.
