Slovak envoy: Azerbaijan advancing infrastructure restoration in Karabakh
Azerbaijan’s government is actively restoring infrastructure in Karabakh, with visible progress observed during repeated visits to the region, Slovakia’s ambassador to Azerbaijan, Elchin Gasimov, said.
Speaking to journalists during a visit to Karabakh and East Zangazur by members of the foreign diplomatic corps, the ambassador highlighted ongoing reconstruction efforts and their impact.
“Each time we come here, we see progress, the development of Karabakh,” he said.
Gasimov noted that the Azerbaijani government is carrying out what he described as an important mission by showcasing the reconstruction process to foreign diplomats.
During a visit the previous day to the city of Khankandi, he said he observed numerous completed infrastructure projects and praised the pace of development in the city.
The ambassador also provided an update on Slovakia’s involvement in reconstruction efforts, stating that the “Smart Village” project in the village of Bash Garvand in the Aghdam district is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
“At present, one of the Slovak companies is implementing the project in the Aghdam district. I think by the end of this year it will be completed,” he said.
Gasimov further announced upcoming official visits by senior Slovak officials to Azerbaijan.
“In the near future, official visits by Speaker of Parliament Richard Rasi and President of Slovakia Peter Pellegrini are expected,” he added.
Slovakia is currently implementing the “Smart Village” project in Bash Garvand, which предусматривает the restoration and modernisation of the village using modern, environmentally friendly technologies. The reconstruction work is being carried out by Slovak companies, and the total project area covers 476 hectares.
