Special envoy: Armenia ready for full normalisation of ties with Türkiye Without any preconditions

12 March 2025 19:21

Armenia’s special envoy for the normalisation of Armenia-Türkiye relations Ruben Rubinyan has said that Armenia is fully prepared for the normalisation of relations with Türkiye, and Yerevan's stance on this matter has remained unchanged since the beginning of the process.

Rubinyan made these remarks during an interview with Turkish TV channel NTV, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.

“We expect a complete settlement of relations with Türkiye, which includes the normalisation of diplomatic ties and the reopening of the Armenia-Türkiye land border,” he said.

While speaking about the ongoing normalisation process, the Armenian special envoy reiterated that Yerevan is ready to normalise relations without any preconditions.

He emphasised that Armenia is ready to open its border with Türkiye and fully resolve relations, whether that happens today, tomorrow, or in the future. If Turkey shows political will, everything will be implemented very quickly.

Rubinyan also pointed out that, with regard to the border reopening, Armenia is awaiting action from Türkiye.

“The most significant agreement to date is the opening of the border for third-country nationals and holders of diplomatic passports, which was achieved in 2022,” he added.

Earlier, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan confirmed that Armenia is actively participating in the ongoing process of normalizing relations with Türkiye.

Speaking at the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA), Mirzoyan expressed confidence that full settlement, particularly through the establishment of diplomatic relations and the opening of borders, would significantly contribute to regional peace and stability.

"We are continuing this dialogue and have taken practical steps," Mirzoyan stated, emphasizing the importance of the ongoing efforts.

The minister also highlighted a notable agreement between Armenia and Türkiye to jointly restore the historic Ani Bridge. He explained that this initiative complements previous decisions, such as the establishment of direct air communication between the two countries and the removal of barriers to air freight traffic.
