TAP’s expansion could contribute to Europe’s climate ambitions – managing director
The expansion of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) could contribute to Europe's climate ambitions.
TAP Managing Director Luca Schieppati made the statement at the Young Hope event in Italy this week, according to Trend.
“TAP has the potential to transport hydrogen in the future, and expanding the pipeline could contribute to the climate ambitions of Europe, including Italy,” he said.
On December 31, 2020, Azerbaijan started gas supplies to Europe through the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC). For the first time in history, Azerbaijan exported its natural gas to the European market through the three-segmented pipeline.
With direct access to the European market, which is the world's largest importer of natural gas, Azerbaijan has diversified its export opportunities. The Trans Adriatic Pipeline, the European leg of the Southern Gas Corridor, annually supplies eight billion cubic metres of gas to Italy and one billion cubic metres to Greece and Bulgaria.
