Tehran vows retaliation against Israel despite Trump's election win
Iran has reaffirmed its stance on responding to Israel's recent attacks, with its official position remaining firm despite the election of Donald Trump as the next US President, according to Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei Hamaneh.
“We have repeatedly stated that we will not ask anyone's permission to defend the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran. We will definitely give a decisive response to aggression against Iran,” he said at the weekly briefing, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
Earlier, the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Lieutenant General Hossein Salami, threatened Israel with imminent retaliation for its attack on Iran in October. The Chief of the Iranian Army, Lieutenant General Abdolrahim Mousavi, vowed that Tehran's response would be devastating.
On October 1, Iran launched a large-scale missile strike on Israel in retaliation for the killings of key figures within the leadership of the radical Palestinian movement Hamas, the Lebanese Shiite organization Hezbollah, and the IRGC. Israel promised to respond to the attack.
On October 26, the Israeli military reported strikes on military targets within Iran in response to "numerous continuous attacks." According to a statement from the air defence forces of the Islamic Republic, military facilities in the provinces of Ilam, Tehran, and Khuzestan were targeted, but the damage was limited, with the primary strike successfully repelled. The Israeli attack resulted in the deaths of at least four Iranian servicemen and one civilian.
