TotalEnergies kick-starts gas production from Azerbaijan's Absheron field
The French TotalEnergies company in cooperation with the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) announced the beginning of gas production in the first phase of the development of the Absheron gas and condensate field in the Caspian Sea.
The first phase has a production capacity of 4 million cubic metres per day of gas and 12,000 barrels per day of condensate, the company said, according to Report.
The gas is intended for the domestic market of Azerbaijan.
The first development phase includes an underwater production well, which is connected to a new platform for gas reception and primary processing. The platform is linked to the offshore infrastructure at the Oil Rocks field owned by SOCAR.
The development of the Absheron field provides additional gas supplies to meet growing demand at competitive technical cost and low GHG intensity, in line with TotalEnergies' strategy.
TotalEnergies and SOCAR have equal stakes in the project, which is operated by the joint venture company JOCAP (Joint Operating Company Absheron Petroleum).
"We are very pleased to announce the launch of the Absheron gas field as a result of the successful work of our exploration team. This project is in line with the company's strategy to meet the growing demand for gas and strengthens our partnership with Azerbaijan's national company SOCAR," said Nicolas Terraz, president of TotalEnergies' exploration and production segment, the statement said.
