Tribune with dozens of spectators collapses during rugby match in Australia
Dozens of people fell from the stands of the sports arena in the city of Lilyfield (Australia) due to the collapse of the fence during a rugby match.
"Dozens of people fell from the podium at the sports arena in Sydney," Chempionat reports citing 9News TV channel.
As reported, fans fell directly on the concrete surface. The match was immediately abandoned. Medical workers arrived at the scene and helped the injured.
The exact number of victims is yet to be clarified.
The incident occurred during a match between student teams Riverview and St Joseph's in front of 15,000 spectators.
The arena where the tragic event took place is called the Leichhardt Oval. Australian media say that the stadium lost funding for modernisation this week due to the fact that the owners did not keep their promises to improve certain parts of the facility.
