TRNC President lauds Azerbaijan's support and diplomatic advances at OTS summit
Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Ersin Tatar praised Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for his bold diplomatic move in inviting the TRNC to the informal summit of the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS) held in Shusha.
Tatar expressed deep appreciation for Aliyev’s political bravery and the opportunity provided for the TRNC to participate in such a significant gathering, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
He highlighted that the TRNC’s foreign policy connections have advanced significantly, reaching levels previously deemed unattainable. Tatar noted that previously, Turkish Cypriot officials faced pressures and restrictions from Western opponents regarding invitations and meetings. However, such barriers are gradually being overcome, as evidenced by the TRNC’s participation in the OTS summit alongside other Turkic leaders.
Tatar also acknowledged Türkiye's role in enhancing the TRNC's international dialogue. He emphasized that the Turkish Cypriots seek only recognition of their rights and expressed optimism about achieving these goals through continued efforts.
"We have no grievances with the Greek community of Cyprus. The only thing Turkish Cypriots want is the recognition of the rights of the TRNC. It is a long road, but thanks to the right steps, we are confidently moving towards our goals," the head of state said.
