Turkish Cabinet to discuss anti-Swedish measures for Quran burning
Officials from the Turkish Cabinet will gather on January 23 to discuss presidential and parliamentary elections, the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine, as well as measures against Sweden in connection with the recent burning of the Quran in Stockholm in front of the Turkish Consulate building.
As Hurriyet reported, citing government sources, the Cabinet meeting will be held under the chairmanship of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The sources say the politicians will discuss mediation in possible talks between Moscow and Kyiv. The ministers will also discuss the Quran-burning retaliatory diplomatic measures against the Swedish government, which is accused of having permitted the action in its capital.
Given such a situation, the Turkish parliament may refuse to approve the memorandum signed with Sweden on its accession to NATO.
The main issue to be discussed at the meeting will be the postponement of presidential and parliamentary elections, which were due to be held on June 18.
