Turkish court sentences two men in fatal parking dispute shooting
A court in Gaziantep, Türkiye, has sentenced two men to lengthy prison terms over a shooting between neighbours that erupted from a parking dispute and left six people dead.
The hearings at the 11th High Criminal Court were attended by the defendants, their lawyers, and relatives of the victims, who demanded the harshest possible punishment, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.
One of the defendants, identified as Cevet D., told the court he had no intent to kill and requested acquittal. The second defendant, Ibrahim D., also argued that he acted in self-defence.
Prosecutors said the defendants used firearms during the incident. Cevdet D. was charged with the killing of four people and involvement in the death of a relative of Ibrahim D., while Ibrahim D. was charged with killing one person and injuring two others.
The court sentenced Cevdet D. to 92 years in prison, taking into account multiple murder counts and mitigating circumstances. Ibrahim D. was initially given a life sentence, which was reduced to 18 years.
Both convicts will remain in custody.
