Türkiye applauds UN’s move to lift sanctions on Syrian leadership
Türkiye expressed support for the UN Security Council’s decision to remove Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa and Interior Minister Anas Khattab from its sanctions list, signaling a potential shift toward Syria’s reintegration into the international community.
Oncu Keceli, spokesperson for the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs made a statement on his social media account, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.

“We welcome UN Security Council Resolution No. 2799 (2025), which removes Syrian President Ahmed Sharaa and Interior Minister Anas Khattab from the relevant sanctions list.”
He added that Türkiye would continue to support initiatives aimed at addressing the negative legacy of the previous period for the current Syrian administration and its people. “This includes the full lifting of sanctions, facilitating Syria’s integration into the international community, and ensuring sustainable stability and economic development in the country,” Keceli emphasized.
The UN Security Council adopted the resolution on November 6. The US-drafted measure passed with 14 votes in favor and one abstention from China, formally removing both Syrian leaders from the sanctions list and marking a notable development in the international approach toward Damascus.
