Türkiye cracks down on FETO terrorist organisation
Some 10 individuals have been arrested on suspicion of being members of the Fethullah Gülen Terrorist Organisation (FETO) in Türkiye’s capital Ankara.
Besides these arrests, the prosecutor's office has issued arrest warrants for 17 suspects who are believed to have had contact with the organisation's "intelligence services", Caliber.Az reports per Turkish media.
Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that the authorities will persist in their fight against FETO terrorist organisation, which is deemed a significant threat by Ankara.
"We will resolutely continue the fight against FETO until it is completely eradicated. We will pursue its members wherever they may be," Erdogan stated.
Turkish intelligence confirmed the death of FETO terror group's ringleader Fetullah Gulen on October 21.
Gulen had been living in the US state of Pennsylvania. Turkish leaders had long sought his extradition, but US judicial officials did not approve it. He orchestrated the defeated coup of July 15, 2016 in Türkiye in which 252 people were killed and 2,734 wounded. Ankara also accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police and judiciary.
