Türkiye, Russia condemn Israel's ground operation in Lebanon

The Turkish Foreign Ministry has condemned Israel's ground operation in Lebanon, characterizing it as an unlawful act of occupation that infringes upon Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In a statement shared on the social media platform X, the ministry called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territory, Caliber.Az reports.

It underscored that this aggression poses a threat not only to regional security but also to nations beyond the region.

The ministry warned that this dangerous attempt at occupation could trigger a new wave of migration and exacerbate extremist ideologies globally. It further noted that these developments could also impact countries that extend political support and military aid to Israel.

The Foreign Ministry urged the UN Security Council to uphold its responsibilities under international law and take decisive action against Israel's aggression in Lebanon.

Additionally, it stated that every act of violence committed by Israel represents a violation of international law and the principles outlined in the UN Charter.

The ministry emphasized that the essential step toward restoring peace in the region lies in achieving an “immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza,” reminding the international community that fostering peace in Gaza is a collective responsibility.

Russia also has expressed its unwavering support and solidarity with the leadership and people of Lebanon, which has recently been the target of armed attacks by Israel.

"We express solidarity with the leadership and people of friendly Lebanon, which has been subjected to armed aggression. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the victims,” the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized.

The Russian government strongly condemns the Israeli military actions in Lebanon and urges the Israeli authorities to immediately halt hostilities. Russia calls for the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Lebanese territory and encourages Israel to pursue genuine peaceful solutions to the ongoing Middle East conflict.

The Foreign Ministry noted that the multifaceted nature of the Israeli invasion, involving various military branches, suggests that the number of casualties is likely to rise. “It is evident that the military and political leadership of Israel, following the assassination of several Hezbollah leaders, is taking steps that will escalate violence further in the Middle East,” the ministry cautioned.
