Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, sign joint action plan to improve transit corridor
Railway companies from Georgia, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan have signed a joint action plan aimed at ensuring the smooth operation of transit trains and further reducing travel times, Georgian Railways JSC has announced.
The plan was developed based on findings from a joint working group established by the three parties, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.
These findings resulted from on-site inspections and analyses of processes along the entire transport corridor, from Altynkol to the Black Sea ports.
According to Georgian Railways, the agreement focuses on removing existing bottlenecks in the “Middle Corridor,” addressing infrastructure, operational, and logistical challenges, including streamlining customs procedures.
The document sets specific deadlines and assigns responsibilities to relevant authorities.
“The joint action plan represents an important step in the development of the Middle Corridor. The agreement will strengthen regional cooperation, fully utilise the corridor’s transit potential, and increase freight volumes between European and Asian markets,” Georgian Railways stated.
