Türkiye significantly upgrades Altay tanks PHOTO/VIDEO
The Turkish Altay tank has been upgraded to meet the conditions of the present-day combat environment over the time since the first prototype was produced.
Many subsystems that had problems procuring from abroad were localised. Combat capability has been enhanced by the addition of updated technology and innovations, and the domestic tank has been dubbed the "New Altay", which has acquired additional features due to the experience gained from the Army's operations in recent years, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Twitter page of SavunmaSanayiST.com.
In this context, one of the most important features of the Altay is the increased use of digital technology. In this way, the tank can be used more accurately and quickly for enemy detection, targeting and firing.
The new Altay's fire control system incorporates advanced technologies such as a laser rangefinder and a more sensitive image stabilisation system. In this way, the tank will be able to detect targets at long ranges and hit them accurately with a high rate of fire.
The fire control system will improve the tank's "fire and mobility" capabilities and enable it to accurately engage targets both on the move and on the ground, on rough terrain, or while on the move, by performing evasive maneuvers.
Survivability, which is one of the three most important capabilities of Generation 3+ tanks with the addition of advanced armour modules, provides passive protection, while Akkor active protection systems provide active protection in the new tanks. In this way, the hybrid defence concept is also used with the new ALTAY.
Another important feature of the new Altay is that it has a flexible architecture that can adapt to evolving technologies. Because of this feature, it has been sought to be upgraded to fit various concepts that the Turkish Armed Forces may need in the future.
The new Altay's 12.7mm and 7.62mm armament systems, especially the gun mount, turret gears, main rotor, flat periscopes, second-degree sniper's auxiliary sight, tank turret, hand-held firing system, fuel and dryer pumps, hydraulic pumps, systems such as support rollers and coolant waistcoats have also been localised.
Features of the New ALTAY main battle tank:
