UAE logistics giant to build grain terminal on Caspian Sea coast in Kazakhstan
The UAE’s ADPORTS and Kazakhstan’s SEMURG INVEST LLP have signed a foundational agreement for the construction of a new grain terminal on the Caspian Sea coast at the Kurik Port in Kazakhstan.
The terminal is expected to handle up to 570,000 tons of grain annually after the first phase, with a significant increase in capacity following the completion of the second phase, Caliber.Az reports, citing Kazakh media reports.
The second phase will increase the terminal's capacity to 1.5 million tons per year.
The grain terminal project is valued at over $50 million, with ADPORTS investing $30 million.
The first phase is scheduled for completion in the second half of 2026.
Besides, ADPORTS Group, a leading UAE port management and logistics company, will also build two modern container ships for Kazakhstan, with a capacity of over 500 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units). These vessels will enhance the Trans-Caspian route’s capacity and efficiency.
Furthermore, in order to reduce transit time for Kazakh exporters and participants in the Middle Corridor, ADPORTS plans to develop an intermodal ferry line across the Caspian Sea, which includes building large-capacity ferries and modern terminal infrastructure.
The Trans-Caspian International Transport Route connects China to Europe via Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye, facilitating trade and improving regional connectivity.
