UNICEF bids farewell to Azerbaijan office after 30 years of cooperation
UNICEF will soon be halting its operations in Azerbaijan, with its office in the country set to close in the coming months, as confirmed by the UNICEF Regional Head of Press Service for Europe and Central Asia, Irina Mazur.
In an interview with the domestic press, Mazur explained that the process would unfold gradually over the next few months, per Caliber.Az.
“UNICEF will continue to cooperate with partners in Azerbaijan through its regional office and headquarters,” she added, reassuring that while the physical office will close, collaborative efforts will persist.
Mazur highlighted that UNICEF has maintained a strong partnership with the Azerbaijani government since 1993.
“Over the past 30 years, our cooperation has contributed to reducing child mortality, increasing access to quality education, and strengthening child protection systems,” she said, noting the significant impact of these efforts on the well-being of children in Azerbaijan.
UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund, is a global organisation dedicated to promoting and protecting children's rights.
Founded in 1946, UNICEF operates in over 190 countries, providing humanitarian aid, education, health care, nutrition, and protection services to children. Its work focuses on key issues such as child poverty, malnutrition, education, and protecting children from violence and exploitation.
The organisation is funded through voluntary donations from governments, private individuals, and corporations.
