US Department of State strongly condemns terrorist attack on Azerbaijani embassy in Iran
The US Department of State issued a statement on January 27 in connection with the terrorist attack against the Azerbaijani embassy in Iran.
“The United States condemns the attack on the Azerbaijani embassy that occurred in Tehran on January 27. We echo President Aliyev’s call for a prompt investigation into this unacceptable violence. We offer our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those who were killed and injured today. Any attack against diplomats or diplomatic facilities anywhere is unacceptable. We remind the Government of Iran of its responsibility under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations to protect foreign diplomats in Iran,” Caliber.Az reports citing a message on the website of the US Department of State.
An armed attack on the Azerbaijani embassy in Iran was committed on January 27 morning.
The attacker broke through to the security post of the diplomatic mission and killed the head of the security service by using a Kalashnikov rifle.
Two embassy security guards were also wounded while repelling the attack. Their health condition is satisfactory.
The criminal was detained by employees of the Azerbaijani embassy.
