US diplomat, Azerbaijani official discuss prospects for cooperation in tourism

Chairman of the State Tourism Agency of Azerbaijan (SAT) Fuad Nagiyev held a meeting with US Chargé d'Affaires in Azerbaijan Hugo Guevara, the prospects for cooperation in the field of tourism were discussed.

During the meeting, Nagiyev told Guevara about the tourism potential of the territories liberated from occupation (Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur), as well as about the projects prepared on the basis of the assessments carried out by the SAT in Karabakh, Interfax-Azerbaijan reports citing the SAT.

He also noted that compared to the figures for 2019, the tourist flow to Azerbaijan has recovered by about 50%, appropriate marketing activities are being carried out for a full recovery taking into account the characteristics of the target markets.

The US Chargé d'Affaires, in turn, noted that Azerbaijan successfully combines modernity and history, and noted the importance of raising awareness of American tourists about Azerbaijan.

Guevara noted the presence in Azerbaijan of such factors as rich historical and cultural heritage, nature, ethnic and religious diversity, stability, various tourism opportunities. Azerbaijan has a wide potential for tourism development.

He noted that American companies are interested in investing in Azerbaijan's tourism infrastructure.

“During the meeting, the parties also discussed the establishment of direct flights, an exchange of views took place on projects aimed at developing rural tourism, agritourism and gastrotourism opportunities,” the information notes.
