US envoy says Türkiye, Syria could become key global energy hubs
The United States’ Ambassador to Türkiye, Tom Barrack, said Türkiye and Syria have the potential to become major global hubs for energy distribution, highlighting the revival of the regional “Four Seas” project.
Barrack noted that the initiative could significantly reshape the world’s energy landscape. He argued that, despite Syria’s past instability, the country could now serve as a stable alternative amid ongoing crises affecting the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
According to Barrack, modernising the Four Seas project—which was not implemented under the Assad regime—would position Syria and Türkiye as key players in regional energy security, connecting the Persian Gulf, Caspian, Mediterranean, and Black Seas.
He added that if someone had suggested 15 months ago that Syria would become the most stable country in the region, few would have believed it. Barrack said this transformation is reflected in the region’s energy policy, which he described as shifting focus from mere distribution toward broader energy security.
