Western Azerbaijan Community condemns Armenian leadership's disruption of peace process
The statement issued by the Western Azerbaijan community reflects their condemnation of the recent statements made by the Armenian government and parliamentary leaders, which they perceive as detrimental to the peace process and maintaining stability in the region.
According to Report, the rejection of steps required by international law and the refusal to exclude territorial claims to Azerbaijan from the Armenian Constitution have exacerbated tensions.
The community specifically points out Armenian Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan's statements, which they find accusatory and inflammatory, particularly his use of terms like "ethnic cleansing" and "genocide" against Azerbaijan. They urge Simonyan and the Armenian authorities to acknowledge their country's responsibility for crimes committed against Azerbaijanis during historical events such as forced expulsions and deportations from areas like Qarakilse, Basarkecher, and Gafan. The statement emphasizes the need for Armenia to address these injustices and facilitate the safe return of displaced Azerbaijanis, ensuring their rights and dignity are restored.
Furthermore, the Western Azerbaijan community calls upon the international community to exert pressure on Armenia to adopt a more constructive approach conducive to peace and reconciliation in the region. This stance underscores the community's commitment to promoting dialogue, reconciliation, and justice as essential elements for lasting peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
