Western Azerbaijan women’s plight gets global spotlight at UN through official appeal
The Women's Council of the Western Azerbaijan Community has officially brought the issue of women’s rights violations in the region to the attention of the global community through an international online conference titled "Refugee and Women."
The event, held on March 1, was organized on the occasion of International Women’s Day, and its appeal has been distributed as an official document to the United Nations General Assembly and Security Council, Caliber.Az reports.
The primary goal of the conference was to raise awareness about the ongoing violations faced by women in Western Azerbaijan, who continue to suffer from the aftermath of ethnic cleansing by Armenia. The participants highlighted that these women are not only victims of violence but also remain deprived of the fundamental right to return to their homes in the region.
The dissemination of this appeal to the highest levels of the United Nations is seen as a significant step in garnering international attention to the issue. By presenting the document to the UN bodies, the Women's Council aims to underscore the importance of addressing the humanitarian crisis in Western Azerbaijan and advocating for the community’s right to return.
In a statement, the Women's Council emphasized its commitment to continuing efforts to raise awareness of the region's issues and to highlight the plight of women who have been left without homes and subjected to violations of their basic rights. These efforts will remain at the forefront of the community’s ongoing campaign for recognition and restitution.
Through this appeal, the Community of Western Azerbaijan seeks to not only draw global attention to the dire situation of displaced women but also to foster international solidarity in supporting their right to return and ensuring that their voices are heard on the world stage.
