World’s largest passenger plane makes emergency landing in Baku Photo
On June 9, a Qantas Airways Airbus A380 operating a scheduled flight from London to Singapore made an emergency landing in Baku early after a medical emergency on board.
According to the press service of Heydar Aliyev International Airport, the aircraft was diverted after one of the passengers experienced a sudden deterioration in health, Caliber.Az reports.
The flight crew contacted air traffic control and requested a priority landing, which was granted without delay.
The aircraft, recognised as the world’s largest passenger jet, landed safely at 07:55 local time. The Airbus A380 is a double-deck, four-engine airliner capable of carrying several hundred passengers. Due to its size and technical requirements, it can only operate from airports with specific infrastructure.
Heydar Aliyev International Airport is among the few in the region fully equipped to accommodate aircraft of this class. It boasts wide runways, modern ground handling facilities, and advanced support infrastructure, enabling it to handle A380 operations efficiently.
No further details were released regarding the passenger’s condition, but emergency medical personnel were reportedly on hand upon landing.
