ACWA Power plans multiple renewable energy projects in Azerbaijan
ACWA Power, a Saudi Arabian company, is set to implement several projects in Azerbaijan, Mehmet Selim Güven, Director of ACWA Power Azerbaijan Renewable Energy, said.
Güven noted that the Khizi-Absheron wind farm project is the company's first initiative in the country, Caliber.Az reports.
"We are interested in many other projects," Güven stated. These projects include an energy storage facility, offshore developments in the Caspian Sea, a seawater desalination project, and several solar power plants, all focused on renewable energy sources. He emphasized that negotiations with the Azerbaijani government are ongoing regarding these initiatives.
The commissioning of the Khizi-Absheron wind power plant, which has a total capacity of 240 megawatts, is anticipated in 2025. Preliminary estimates suggest that the facility will generate approximately 1 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, saving around 220 million cubic meters of natural gas and preventing over 400,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. This project aims to provide electricity to 300,000 homes and has a total cost exceeding $300 million, fully funded by foreign investment.
