Armenia may recount votes in Yerevan elections, CEC chair says
Chairman of Armenian Central Election Commission (CEC) Vahagn Hovakimyan has said the CEC will accept applications for recounting of votes from proxies of political forces that took part in the elections to the Yerevan Council of Elders on September 18 (12:00-18։00) and September 19 (09։00-11։00).
The number of voters in the capital election was 824,250, but only 28.44 per cent (234,436) of eligible citizens took part in the election, Hovakimyan told a briefing, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
"The CEC will select by drawing lots the polling stations where the recount will be held. In addition, the CEC can decide on its own initiative which polling stations to recount the votes in," Hovakimyan said.
According to him, the number of ballots, recognised invalid by the results of the elections to the Council of Elders of Yerevan, was 2,763.
On September 17, elections to the Council of Elders were held in Yerevan. Thirteen parties and one bloc took part in them. According to the preliminary data of the CEC, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's Civil Contract party won the most votes.
