Armenian Deputy PM calls for resolution of issues with Russia
Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan acknowledged the existence of problems in relations with Russia, stating that they need to be resolved.
“There are difficulties in relations — not only with Russia. However, I believe it is essential to balance and eliminate all these obstacles. The situation in the world is complicated, and in our region — especially so. It raises many questions that remain inadequately addressed,” Grigoryan emphasized, Caliber.Az reports citing Armenian media.
He added that it is crucial to seek explanations for these issues and make balanced decisions.
Recent Armenian media reports indicate increased tensions between Armenia and Russia, marked by periodic mutual criticism from officials in both countries. Yerevan has accused its CSTO partners of failing to meet their obligations, while Moscow considers these claims unfounded.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said on August 31 during a press conference that Armenia has suspended its participation in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) "at all levels," but that the decision could change.
"The Republic of Armenia has frozen its participation in the CSTO at all levels, and at this stage, we consider this decision sufficient," Pashinyan said.
The CSTO, established in 2002, includes Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan. Russia is by far the most powerful member of the alliance.
