Armenian mines are obstacle in clarifying fate of missing Azerbaijanis Statement by State Commission
The State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages, and Missing Persons of Azerbaijan has issued a statement saying together with specialized state bodies, including ANAMA, search and exhumation works are underway in the territories liberated from occupation in order to clarify the fate of citizens missing as a result of Armenia's military aggression against Azerbaijan.
“Armenia's mining of territories during the occupation and even in the post-conflict period, the setting of booby traps, and excessive contamination with unexploded ordnance not only slow down reconstruction work and the process of returning former IDPs to their lands, but also seriously hinder search, excavation and exhumation work at burial sites," the statement by the Commission says, Caliber.Az reports.
It takes a long time to clear the territories of mines and to create conditions for the work of the State Commission's specialists in the suspected burial sites of missing persons. This circumstance is a clear example of Armenia's disrespect for international humanitarian law. The State Commission strongly condemns Armenia's mine terror, which leads to the deaths and injuries of the civilian population and hinders the clarification of the fate of our missing citizens," the statement notes.
