Armenian premier’s statements impugn future of peace process - Azerbaijan

The Global Studies Institute of the University of Geneva organised on September 13 a round-table discussions on “Regional security and cooperation of Azerbaijan with the Central Asian countries” as part of Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov’s working visit to Switzerland.

Bayramov, who delivered a speech at the event, noted opportunities for regional cooperation in the field of economy, energy security, transport, communications, especially amid the growing importance of the Trans-Caspian East-West Middle Corridor, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told Caliber.Az.

While speaking about regional security issues, Bayramov noted that Armenia’s actions jeopardize the process of normalisation of relations with Azerbaijan and stability in the region. In this regard, the minister emphasised the groundlessness of allegations about the “blockade” and “humanitarian crisis”, the refusal to simultaneously use the Aghdam-Khankandi and Lachin-Khankandi roads, and added that this is just one example of Armenia’s contradictory position.

He emphasised that the Armenian prime minister’s statements encouraging separatism in our territories call into question the future of the peace process.

In conclusion, Bayramov emphasised the importance of a correct understanding by the international community of the ongoing processes in the region and the regional situation, as well as condemnation of Armenia’s unstable behavior, which is a blow to the peace process.
