Azerbaijan affirms support for One China policy amidst booming trade relations with Beijing
China is an important and growing trade partner of Azerbaijan, the volume of trade with which exceeded $3bn last year.
Report quotes Azerbaijani Economy Minister Mikail Jabbarov as saying in an interview with Chinese TV channel CGTN.
"Double-digit growth was recorded in trade turnover between the countries and it continues. We have a permanent trade mission in China. Several Chinese companies are implementing projects in Azerbaijan in various spheres. These are in the field of renewable energy, industrial production, and there is also cooperation within the framework of industrial parks," the minister said.
According to M. Jabbarov, all this is based on excellent political relations:
"Azerbaijan supports the policy of One China and this is a very strong basis in our relations."
“Azerbaijan has strong relations with many partners, he said: "Our main trading partners are the European Union, China, the Russian Federation, of course Turkey, Central Asian states and Gulf countries. This in a way reflects our mutual investment pattern.
Azerbaijan is also located at the crossroads of various transport routes, and the East-West route is actually the shortest route connecting China to Europe and passing through the Central Asian states via the Caspian Sea and Azerbaijan. The same would be true of the North-South transport corridor. Our geographical location, in a sense, also determines our economic partnership.”
