Azerbaijan clears over 5,000 hectares of landmines, unexploded ordnance in March
Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) has cleared more than 5,300 hectares of land and neutralised thousands of explosive hazards across territories liberated from occupation in March.
According to the agency’s latest monthly report, demining operations conducted across multiple regions—including Tartar, Aghdara, Kalbajar, Aghdam, Khojaly, Khojavand, Lachin, Shusha, Fuzuli, Gubadli, Jabrayil, Gazakh, Zangilan, and the city of Khankandi—resulted in the detection and neutralisation of 236 anti-personnel mines, 267 anti-tank mines, and 4,922 items of unexploded ordnance, Caliber.Az reports.
In total, 5,336.5 hectares of land were cleared during the reporting period.
ANAMA is responsible for the removal of landmines, unexploded ordnance, and other explosive remnants of war—excluding chemical weapons—in territories affected by military activity. Its mandate also includes the temporary storage, transportation, and disposal of explosives, as well as the planning, coordination, and management of nationwide demining operations.
