Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan strengthen ties through strategic roundtable in Baku
Kazakhstan’s Embassy in Baku hosted a roundtable to discuss the current state and future prospects of Azerbaijani-Kazakh relations, the embassy reported.
Experts attending the event praised the outcomes of Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s visit to Azerbaijan for the 12th Summit of the Organisation of Turkic States, as well as Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s state visit to Kazakhstan in October 2025, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
They highlighted that the high level of bilateral political dialogue is fostering cooperation across key sectors and creating opportunities for joint strategic projects in energy and transport.
Kazakhstan’s ambassador to Azerbaijan, Alim Bayel, emphasised major initiatives, including the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, the export of Kazakh oil and uranium via Azerbaijan, and the undersea Caspian fibre-optic cable, scheduled for completion by the end of 2026.
He also noted that Kazakhstan became Azerbaijan’s main wheat supplier in 2025, expressing hope that this success would be sustained.
Participants also discussed the growing role of the Organisation of Turkic States and Azerbaijan’s priorities during its chairmanship. In particular, they highlighted Baku’s initiative to establish a platform for NGOs from member countries, with a secretariat based in Azerbaijan.
In terms of regional cooperation, Farid Shafiyev, chairman of the Centre for Analysis of International Relations, proposed holding a C6-style forum of think tanks in 2026 and suggested exploring a similar event within the framework of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA).
The roundtable further examined energy and transport logistics cooperation, scientific and expert collaboration, and the development of cultural and humanitarian ties between the two countries.
