Azerbaijan and Kenya are exploring opportunities for cooperation in the areas of housing, eco-friendly cities, and sustainable urban development, according to Chairman of Azerbaijan’s State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture, Anar Guliyev.
Guliyev shared the news on his official Facebook page following a meeting in Nairobi with Alice Wahome, Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Lands, Public Works, Housing, and Urban Development, Caliber.Az reports.
“As part of our visit to Nairobi, we had a cordial meeting with Ms. Alice Wahome, Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development of Kenya," the minister stated.
He also noted that Azerbaijan extended an invitation to the Kenyan side to participate in the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), which is scheduled to be held in Baku in 2026. The invitation aims to foster the exchange of experience and best practices in green and sustainable urban development.
According to Guliyev, Azerbaijan also participated in the“Briefing on Urban Climate and Environment – New Milestones and Opportunities for 2025 and Beyond,” held as part of the Second Session of the UN-Habitat Assembly in Nairobi.
During the event, Guliyev noted that hosting COP29 in Baku marked a significant milestone in elevating the role of cities within the global climate agenda.
“The event provided a platform to reflect on the outcomes of COP29 and discuss the road ahead toward COP30,” he said.
He also highlighted the efforts of the Baku Continuity Coalition, which showcased the power of local initiatives in tackling major global challenges such as climate change, housing shortages, and social inequality.
The briefing underscored the importance of strengthening collaboration between local and international stakeholders in advancing sustainable, climate-resilient urban development.
