Azerbaijan reintroduces endangered species to liberated lands to boost biodiversity
Head of the Department at Azerbaijan's Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources Kanan Karimli has said that animals and birds were released into the wild in Jabrayil and Lachin districts.
Karimli made these remarks during a meeting of the working group on environmental issues in Khankendi, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
He noted that 33 gazelles were released into the wild in the Jabrayil district, while 5 falcons, 10 partridges, and 4 East Caucasian tur were reintroduced in the Lachin district as part of efforts to enhance biodiversity and restore ecosystems in the areas liberated from occupation.
"In an effort to reintroduce bezoar goats, 3 goats were released from the Goygol National Park into the Kalbajar district, heading towards Mount Murovdag. In addition, over 1.15 million juvenile trout and other fish species have been released into water bodies in the liberated territories," he added.
Earlier, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Vugar Karimov said that a new National Park is set to be opened next year in the territories liberated from occupation, aimed at protecting endangered species of flora and fauna.
Karimov stated that the National Park will cover parts of the administrative territories of the liberated Shusha, Khojaly, Aghdara and Kalbajar districts. He also noted that there are currently four state natural reserves in Arazboyu, Dashalti, Lachin, and Gubadli districts. Karimov mentioned that a project is underway to restore the operations of the Garagol and Basitchay reserves in the liberated territories.
