Azerbaijan's Aghdam set to welcome new residents as Great Return continues PHOTO
As many as 90 Azerbaijani formerly displaced families, comprising 346 people, have departed Baku for their native Aghdam district as part of the country’s ongoing programme to return former internally displaced persons (IDPs) to liberated territories.
The families had previously been living temporarily in various regions of the country, mainly in dormitories, sanatoriums and administrative buildings, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
The relocation marks another stage in Azerbaijan’s large-scale resettlement efforts aimed at restoring life in the formerly occupied territories.
For the record, the resettlement process is being carried out under the “Great Return” programme launched on the instructions of President Ilham Aliyev.
Residents who have returned to their native lands expressed gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva for the state’s comprehensive support.
They also thanked the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, as well as the soldiers and officers who liberated the country’s territories from occupation, and honoured the memory of the martyrs who lost their lives in the process.
