Azerbaijan’s Khojavand to welcome over 1,500 returning families by year-end
Azerbaijan plans to resettle more than 1,500 internally displaced families in the Khojavand district by the end of 2025, as part of the ongoing post-conflict reconstruction and repatriation program.
Emin Huseynov, the Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan in Aghdam, Fuzuli, and Khojavand districts, stated that the resettlement of 1,552 families is planned across multiple locations within Khojavand, including urban centers and surrounding villages, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
According to the outlined plan, 79 families are scheduled to be relocated to the town of Hadrut, 217 to Girmizi Bazar, and 85 to the village of Sos by year’s end. These efforts are part of a broader state-led initiative aimed at restoring civilian life and infrastructure in territories liberated during the 2020 Second Karabakh War.
“In total, we anticipate the resettlement of 1,552 families in Khojavand and nearby areas before the year concludes,” Huseynov noted. “This process is ongoing and will continue into the following year. The figures are being reviewed, and it is highly probable that the number will increase.”
The repatriation strategy forms a core component of Azerbaijan’s Great Return program, which focuses on enabling the safe, voluntary, and dignified return of displaced persons to their native lands, following decades of displacement.
