Azerbaijan shines at CANSO Airspace World with innovative air traffic solutions
The Azeraeronavigation (AZANS) Air Traffic Management Department of Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC, operating under the Azerbaijan Transport and Communication Holding (AZCON Holding), achieved a notable milestone by taking part in the influential CANSO Airspace World 2025 (AW2025) exhibition, held on May 13-15 in Lisbon, Portugal.
This event, which gathered aviation leaders, innovators, and policymakers from around the globe, served as an essential platform for shaping the future of air traffic management, Caliber.Az reports citing Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL).
With over 200 companies, representatives from more than 110 countries, and more than 10,000 international visitors, AW2025 stands as one of the world’s premier exhibitions in the aviation sector.
AZANS' involvement in the event highlighted Azerbaijan’s growing prominence in the global air navigation arena, underscoring the country's commitment to fostering international cooperation and sharing best practices in air traffic management. The exhibition focused on expanding international partnerships, integrating innovative technologies, and promoting sustainable development practices in aviation.
At its dedicated booth, AZANS emphasized the strategic significance of Azerbaijan's airspace as a vital, safe, and efficient corridor linking East and West. The organization showcased its ongoing modernization efforts, environmental initiatives, and key projects aimed at improving regional and global air connectivity.
During the three-day event, AZANS engaged in high-level discussions with leading air navigation service providers, including NATS (UK), DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung (Germany), GCAA (UAE), CANSO members, and ACI World (Airports Council International). These meetings reinforced Azerbaijan’s position as a key player in international air traffic management and demonstrated the country's dedication to knowledge exchange and collaboration.
A major highlight of the exhibition was AZANS' achievement at the prestigious international ATM Awards 2024, where it was recognized in the "Collaboration and Community" category. This accolade was awarded for AZANS' involvement in the Green Aviation Insights (GAIN) project, a collaborative effort with NATS (UK), CAAM (Malaysia), and skeyes (Belgium). The project was lauded for its excellence in advancing sustainable aviation practices and air traffic management.
Furthermore, AZANS engaged with global technology leaders such as INDRA, Aireon, ADB SAFEGATE, SITA, and Era to discuss the integration of advanced surveillance, communication, and digital systems. These discussions align with AZANS’ broader strategy to modernize Azerbaijan’s air navigation infrastructure and integrate cutting-edge technologies into its operations.
In addition to the exhibition, AZANS played a crucial role in hosting two major regional coordination meetings: the CANSO Leadership Meeting for Central Asia and Türkiye and the CEO meeting of SOCEA — the Regional Air Navigation Safety Coordination Platform for European and Asian Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs), co-founded by AZANS and Türkiye’s DHMI. These meetings focused on enhancing regional integration, safety coordination, digital transformation, and cross-border collaboration in air traffic management.
