Azerbaijani boxer Sarkhan Aliyev has advanced to the quarterfinals of the First World Olympic Qualification Tournament in Busto Arsizio, Italy, following a resounding victory over Armenian opponent Gurgen Madoyan.
Competing in the 71 kg weight category, Aliyev, a world championship medalist, displayed exceptional skill and determination in the ring. According to Report, he secured a convincing victory over Madoyan with a score of 3:2, with judges' scores reading 28:29, 28:29, 29:28, 29:28, and 30:27 in favour of Aliyev.
This significant win propels Aliyev into the quarterfinals of the tournament. A victory in the upcoming quarterfinal match would guarantee Aliyev a coveted spot in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. His next opponent will be the representative of Kazakhstan, Aslanbek Shymbergenov.
