Azerbaijani envoy: Norms, principles of international law - main criterion in peace restoration process
A panel discussion on "Education for Peace: Building Bridges" has been held at the US George Washington University.
The event organised by the US-Azerbaijan Network of Academics (ANA) was moderated by University Professor James Williams, Report informs.
Azerbaijani Ambassador to the US Khazar Ibrahim, Director of the Centre for Peace and Security in the Middle East of the US Hudson Institute, and President of the Global Peace for Human Security Centre Vasif Eyvazzade took part in the discussions.
The importance of education in supporting peacekeeping initiatives, and the best methods for developing and implementing peacebuilding initiatives were discussed during the event.
Ambassador Ibrahim noted that Azerbaijan is involved in all issues at the regional and global level and therefore is one of the main actors in international politics.
He noted that the norms and principles of international law should be taken into account as the main criterion in the peace restoration process and that Azerbaijan always takes this position.
The ambassador noted that to achieve peace, the sides must be able to make independent decisions in foreign policy, and Azerbaijan can be exemplary in this sphere.
