Azerbaijani minister engages in climate finance discussions in Washington, DC
Azerbaijani Finance Minister Samir Sharifov, accompanied by a delegation led by COP29 President-Designate Mukhtar Babayev, participated in several high-level events and discussions focused on climate finance during the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group in Washington, DC.
On October 22, at an event organized by Azerbaijan, the UAE, and Brazil, Sharifov emphasized the crucial need for a fair and ambitious New Collective Quantified Goal on Climate Finance (NCQG) to be established by the end of the year, aimed at addressing the climate challenges faced by developing countries, Caliber.Az reports.
He urged G20 finance ministers to collaborate on the NCQG and highlighted the necessity of expanding the resource base of multilateral development banks to enhance climate financing.
Additionally, Sharifov attended a meeting with finance ministers and central bank governors from the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, Caucasus, and Central Asia, further underscoring Azerbaijan's commitment to global climate finance initiatives.
