Azerbaijani MP objects to content of report at joint meeting of Euronest PA committees

Member of the Azerbaijani delegation, MP Soltan Mammadov has protested against the incorrect indication of the administrative-territorial units of Azerbaijan in the report prepared by Martine Michel and Maria Karapetyan.

At a joint meeting of the Committees on Social Affairs, Education, Culture and Civil Society and on Economic Integration, Legal Approximation and Adaptation to EU Policies of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, a report on social support and integration of minors living in war situations in the EU and Eastern Partnership regions was discussed, APA reports.

Mammadov noted that there is no Nagorno-Karabakh administrative region in Azerbaijan, but there is a Karabakh economic region. Azerbaijan regularly informs all international organizations about the names of the administrative-territorial units of the country.

The deputy emphasized that on September 19, anti-terrorism measures were carried out in the Karabakh region, which is the internationally recognized territory of Azerbaijan, in order to eliminate serious security threats from illegal Armenian military formations:

“I am sure that there is not a single country in the world that would tolerate the presence on its territory of illegal armed groups equipped with heavy weapons. For 30 years, 20 per cent of the territory of Azerbaijan was occupied. After implementing four UN Security Council resolutions and restoring the territorial integrity of my country, Azerbaijan calls for peace in the region,” the MP said.

Mammadov also protested against the unfounded comments contained in the document regarding the fact that the Lachin road was blocked for nine months and regarding the anti-terrorism measures carried out in Karabakh. The deputy emphasized that it is incorrect to call people of Armenian origin who voluntarily left the Karabakh economic region internally displaced persons or refugees.
