Azerbaijani ombudsperson: Agdaban massacre must be legally assessed at international level
Commissioner for Human Rights of the Republic of Azerbaijan (Ombudsperson) Sabina Aliyeva has issued an appeal in connection with the 32nd anniversary of the massacre in Agdaban village of the Kalbajar district.
“During Armenia’s massacre against the Azerbaijani civilians in Agdaban village of the Kalbajar district at night on April 7, 1992, 779 villagers were tortured, children, women and old people were burned alive, people were brutally killed,” the Ombudsperson noted, APA reports.
“During the tragedy, the Azerbaijani historical, cultural, religious buildings, artifacts were destroyed. The Agdaban massacre, committed in gross violation of international law and international humanitarian law, must be legally assessed at the international level, and those responsible for this bloody crime must be brought to justice,” Aliyeva said.
Agdaban tragedy, which was committed by Armenian armed forces a year before the occupation of Kalbajar, is one of the bloody pages of Armenia’s aggression against Azerbaijan.
Agdaban village is situated in Kalbajar district, on the right shore of Agdaban river. The Armenian armed forces attacked the Agdaban village of Kalbajar district with the help of armed Armenians, burnt the village with 130 houses. Historical, cultural and architectural monuments were destroyed by Armenians, holy sanctuaries and cemeteries were destructed.
