Azerbaijani security boss briefs Turkic special services on regional peace threats

On July 26, the XXIV meeting of the conference of the special services of the Turkic-speaking states was held in the Kyrgyz city of Cholpon-Ata.

The event was attended by the heads and other representatives of the special services of Türkiye, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, along with a delegation led by the head of the Azerbaijani State Security Service, Colonel-General Ali Naghiyev, a source at the State Security Service has told Trend on July 27.

Reports of the heads of the Turkic-speaking states' security agencies were heard at the meeting.

The head of the State Security Service, Colonel-General Ali Nagiyev, in his speech noted with satisfaction that the initiative of the organisation led by him to join the Conference of the Organisation of Turkic-speaking states was supported by the member countries and that a Protocol of Intent will be signed at this meeting in this regard.

He also made a proposal to rename the organisation into "Agencies of Special Services of Turkic States". Naghiyev noted that global cataclysms and processes taking place in the world have a severe impact on the regional security atmosphere and stressed the importance of reviewing the joint activities of the Turkic-speaking states. 

Azerbaijan's security chief expressed particular concern about new manifestations of international terrorism, transnational organised crime, extremism and radicalism and added that the influx of refugees from the respective countries as a result of wars and conflicts facilitated the expansion of opportunities for radical individuals to travel between countries. In connection with these issues, he emphasized the need to establish the closest possible ties of cooperation between the special services of the Turkic-speaking states, more effective organisation of mutual exchange of information and experience, and the further continuation of joint efforts.

In his speech, Colonel-General Ali Naghiyev noted that a number of radical circles continue to work on a regular basis on the territory of some neighbouring countries aimed at undermining stability and tranquillity in the region and inside Azerbaijan. He drew attention to the fact that, unfortunately, the revanchist forces in Armenia have not yet abandoned their provocative intentions and the opposition of this country is making serious attempts to undermine the normalisation of Azerbaijani-Armenian relations. Naghiyev noted that as a result of the vigilance of the Azerbaijani special services, any possible negative situations related to this will be resolutely prevented.
