Baku Energy Forum kicks off 30th edition
The 30th edition of the Baku Energy Forum opened on June 3 at the Baku Convention Center, bringing together energy leaders, business executives, and government officials for high-level discussions on the future of the global energy sector.
Held as part of Baku Energy Week, the Forum marks its 30th anniversary this year. Since its launch, it has become a key international platform for fostering partnerships, exchanging expertise, and signing agreements that have contributed to the development of Azerbaijan’s energy sector and the broader region, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
Organised with the support of Azerbaijan’s Energy Ministry and with the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) as general partner, the forum is also backed by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). In a welcome letter to participants, OPEC Secretary General Haitham Al Ghais emphasised the forum’s importance in advancing global energy cooperation and dialogue.
This year’s Forum has drawn more than 600 delegates, including representatives from companies based in Azerbaijan and 24 other countries — including Belgium, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Norway, Saudi Arabia, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Over 70 speakers are participating in the programme.
A plenary session titled “Global Cooperation for a Resilient and Sustainable Energy Future” will be chaired by Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov. SOCAR President Rovshan Najaf is set to deliver a keynote speech during the “Executive Talks: Path to a Sustainable Energy Ecosystem” session.
The Forum’s agenda covers a broad range of topics reflecting current challenges and opportunities in the energy sector. Sessions include: “Digitalization in Energy: The Power of Data and Technology,” “Exploration & Geology – Innovating for Sustainable Resource Discovery,” “Production & Operations – Driving Efficiency Through Innovation and Sustainability,” “COP29 Energy Deliverables — Pathway to a Sustainable Energy Future,” “Unlocking Green Energy Potential and Connectivity in the Caspian Region,” “Gas Markets – A New Structure for Producers, Transporters, and Consumers,” and “Pipelines – Securing Energy Supply Through Robust Infrastructure.”
The Forum continues to highlight Azerbaijan’s energy policy priorities and showcases the Caspian region’s green energy potential to the global community. It also serves as a venue for promoting innovation, enhancing regional and international collaboration, and building sustainable and resilient energy systems.
A special keynote address will be delivered on June 4 by Kjell A. Nordström, a Swedish economist, futurist, and bestselling author known for his insights into global economic transformation and energy market innovation. This marks his first visit to Azerbaijan.
In addition to the main sessions, the Forum includes bilateral business meetings (B2B and B2G), offering opportunities for face-to-face discussions between government agencies and international companies.
Environmental issues, including green energy and waste reduction, feature prominently in this year’s programme. Continuing its commitment to sustainability, the Forum is once again implementing the “Zero Waste” initiative, focusing on minimising printed materials and reducing carbon and food waste.
